Research and details of the certificate of film

Researching film certificates

U – Universal (Suitable for all ages)
PG – Parental Guidance (Suitable for all, parent’s decision if the film is suitable for their child)
12 – 12 or 12a (Suitable for 12 years and over)
15 – (Suitable ONLY for 15 years and over)
18 – (Suitable ONLY for 18 Years and over)
R18+ - (Suitable ONLY for 18 years and over, can only be watched in certain special cinemas.)

The rating of our Film idea

Our film would be rated a solid 15, there is strong violence, hints to drugs being taken. If our film encouraged or promoted drug misuse, it would be much higher than a 15. However, we plan to only show the ‘dealing’ side of drugs and not the actual taking of drugs. Themes of violence would be strong in the film, but to keep a 15 rating, we would not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury in detail. It is typical of crime thrillers to be rated age 15. We know from prior research that the typical consumers of crime thriller films do sit above the age of 15.
