Location Scouting + Research

Before we went location scouting, we looked at typical locations associated with Crime films. Locations commonly associated with the action and crime genres are usually very urban areas. Most crime action films take place in cities, streets specifically. The locations often tend to be very gloomy, with very desaturated colours. Scenes tend to be set at night in isolated locations.
A few blog posts before this, there is the questionnaire which we put up on the blog, as well as the results. We provided a copy of the storyline for people to read. We had them look at and read the storyline. We then asked them which location would suit the storyline. Most said Urban/Town with one person saying "Urban Asia". This shows us that people have been conditioned to assume that if the film is action, that it would probably be set in a city or town.

We had a look around town, we assumed that this location shown in the above photo would be the most suitable for the deal taking place, it is quite out of the way. However, it is a public location, cars pass in and out very often, so while it is a suitable location for our genre and type of film, it's a hard location to film in

This photo shows the alleyway which we will run down. A shootout will take place here.

This photo shows the location that we will be using for the conversation. This is where we go after running from the police.

This photo is of the exit/entrance to the college car park. It has reasonable lighting and isn't very busy. This is the location of the drug deal.
